Apply to San Diego Zoo's Institute for Conservation Research Teacher Workshop
Denver Zoo just received notice that San Diego Zoo has a fantastic professional development opportunity this summer for middle and high school life science teachers to participate in their Institute for Conservation Research 2010 Teacher Workshop. The summer workshops at the Beckman Center for Conservation Research (research headquarters of the San Diego Zoo) are designed to help teachers bring conservation challenges into their classrooms and to provide them with new expertise and tools to enhance student learning. Workshop activities are aligned with national biology/life science standards and focus on headline scenarios in wildlife conservation such as global amphibian decline, the recovery of the California condor, the African bushmeat crisis, and conservation of biodiversity in San Diego County. Workshops run three full days and two nights and are offered twice per year for high school teachers (July 19-21and July 26-28) and twice per year for middle school teachers (August 2-4 and August 9-11).
If your application is selected, the workshop, room and board included.
They are offering a $500 stipend to help teachers travel to the workshop, too! They indicated in an email to us they are eager to have teachers from Colorado attend the workshop.
